The purpose of risk evaluation is to make informed decisions, based on the outcomes of risk analysis, about which risks need treatment and which are the highest priority.

  • Compare estimated levels of risk against the criteria and weigh up potential benefits against adverse outcomes

  • Use these comparisons to decide the extent, priority and nature of risk management procedures
  • Consider the objectives of the organisation when making these decisions – in many cases high risks can mean high potential returns i.e. some risks are worth taking with appropriate consideration and planning
